For a child fighting cancer, every day is a battle. A haircut may seem small, but when you trim your hair and fundraise with St. Baldrick’s, you do more than change your look—you give hope. By fundraising as a “Trimee,” your haircut helps fund the most promising childhood cancer research and gives these brave kids a chance at a brighter future.

Whether you’re planning a big chop or a meaningful trim, it can transform into a life-changing act of kindness.

What Does It Mean to Be a St. Baldrick’s Trimee?

A Trimee is someone who turns their haircut into a powerful fundraising tool for childhood cancer research. We know that shaving your head — one of St. Baldrick’s longtime fundraising traditions — isn’t for everyone. By trimming your hair at your local St. Baldrick’s event or on your own, you can still take part in raising funds that support the development of safer, more effective treatments for children with cancer and help bring us one step closer to cures.

Many participants choose to amplify their impact by donating their ponytails or braids to organizations that create wigs for people experiencing medical hair loss. This way, your simple act provides comfort and confidence to someone in need while also funding lifesaving research.

How to Trim Your Hair for Charity: Your Event, Your Way

Participating as a Trimee is flexible. You can choose the path that works best for you.

Option 1: Join a St. Baldrick’s Event

Experience the energy and support of your community by joining a local St. Baldrick’s event. Get cheered on by fellow supporters as you make the chop and celebrate your contribution together.
Register as a Trimee to create your personal fundraising page.

Option 2: Trim Your Hair Solo

If you prefer a more personal experience, you can trim your hair for charity on your own terms. Choose the date, the place, and who holds the scissors. You can even livestream the moment to share your commitment with friends and family online while encouraging them to donate.
Register as a virtual participant to start fundraising for childhood cancer research.

What to Expect: A Quick Cut, Not a Salon Service

It’s important to know that trims at St. Baldrick’s events are simple and quick. The focus is on the act of cutting your hair for charity, not on providing a full salon-style haircut. Volunteer barbers will make a clean chop to remove a ponytail or braid, preparing it for donation if you choose.

Think of it as a purposeful trim designed for maximum impact. Many participants visit their favorite salon afterward to style their new, shorter look.

Want to Donate Your Hair for Cancer Patients?

While the St. Baldrick’s Foundation does not collect hair, we encourage Trimees who wish to donate their hair for cancer patients to do so. Your ponytail or braid can become a wig for a child or adult who has lost their hair due to cancer treatments or other medical conditions.

By fundraising with St. Baldrick’s and donating your hair to a partner organization, you double your impact. Your haircut funds research while also providing direct comfort to someone in need.

Why Your Haircut Matters for Childhood Cancer Research

    1. Kids Deserve Better, Safer Treatments
Every two minutes, a child is diagnosed with cancer somewhere in the world. The treatments they endure are often harsh and can leave them with long-term side effects. When you cut your and fundraise for St. Baldrick’s, you directly fund research focused on creating kinder, more effective therapies. You give kids the chance to grow up, follow their dreams, and live full, healthy lives.
    2. It Feels Good to Make a Difference
There’s a unique joy that comes from doing good. Combining a fresh trim with a lifesaving purpose is an incredibly rewarding experience. Whether you’re making a bold change or a symbolic trim, turning your trim into hope is a moment worth celebrating. Share your journey and inspire others with your powerful act of compassion.
    3. Your Fundraiser, Your Style
Trimming your hair for charity is a personal journey. You can go bold with a dramatic chop, keep it simple with a meaningful trim, fundraise at home, or join a vibrant community event. No matter how you choose to participate, your haircut becomes a symbol of solidarity and helps save lives.
