Why Carry a Backpack?
Each year, about 2,500 kids in the U.S. are diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), the most common childhood cancer.
Thanks in part to research funded by St. Baldrick’s supporters, many kids now receive a lifesaving treatment called blinatumomab through a backpack they carry with them. The treatment is given in 28-day cycles, giving kids more freedom to go to school, play and do the things they love while undergoing treatment.
The Send Kids’ Cancer Packing Challenge asks you to carry a backpack in solidarity with kids who shoulder the weight of their treatment in a backpack. Turn your backpack into a visible symbol of the impact of research — leading to conversations, awareness, donations, and better, less toxic treatments.

Take the Challenge
STEP 1: CARRY THE BACKPACK — Raise your first $100 to earn your bright green St. Baldrick’s Challenge backpack. Then carry it while you run errands, go to work, school, on your daily walk, participate in your favorite activities, or wherever life takes you.
Want to take it further? Carry it for 28 days or 28 miles in honor of the 28-day treatment cycle some kids with cancer experience.
STEP 2: SHARE YOUR JOURNEY — Social media is the key to fundraising. Document your backpack journey with photos and videos. Share why you’re carrying it, the moments that are resonating with you, the reality of childhood cancer, and inspire donations to help you reach your goal.
STEP 3: RAISE FUNDS — Every post, share, conversation, and ask can lead to a donation that helps fund research for better, safer treatments, and cures. You become a walking billboard and are actively participating in providing kids the ability to get back to the adventures they love.

For Julia, it was going to school, dancing, and running around the playground. While receiving blinatumomab through her treatment backpack, Julia had more freedom to do the things she loved.
Blinatumomab is one example of what’s possible. In a major clinical trial, adding blinatumomab to standard chemotherapy increased three-year disease-free survival for children with B-cell ALL from about 88% to 96%.
St. Baldrick’s support for the Children’s Oncology Group helped provide the research infrastructure needed to make large-scale clinical trials like this possible.

YETI Backpack Fundraising Incentive Terms & Conditions
To qualify, participants must be registered for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation Send Kids’ Cancer Packing Challenge with a Backpack fundraiser start date of September 1, 2026 or later and must raise at least $100 through their personal fundraising campaign page. The Top 10 Send Kids’ Cancer Packing fundraisers with a start date of September 1 through December 31 will each receive a YETI Ranchero™ 12L Backpack — a $150 value.
Only eligible fundraisers with a start date between September 1–December 31, 2026 will count toward the incentive. Fundraisers with a start date before September 1, 2026 will not be included in determining the Top 10 fundraisers.
Winners will be determined strictly by merit based on verified funds received by St. Baldrick’s Foundation backpack challenge fundraisers during the promotion period and announced the week of January 4, 2027.
In accordance with IRS regulations, prizes and awards given to volunteers are considered taxable income. If a volunteer’s cumulative prizes or incentives from the St. Baldrick’s Foundation equal or exceed $600 within the calendar year, a Form 1099-MISC will be issued. Void where prohibited by law.
